If you are interested in an electric vehicle or already have one – say, a Mercedes-Benz EQS – then you probably are already in the know about how and where to find charging opportunities. It’s not always easy. One of the raps against EVs is that charging infrastructure isn’t entirely ready for the massive onslaught of upcoming EVs.
Mercedes-Benz has heard you. It announced earlier this month at CES 2023 in Las Vegas that it plans to boost charging opportunities with 10,000 new high-power chargers spread across North America, Europe, and other places where EV usage is growing. And it will start here in the U.S.
Mercedes-Benz’s charging initiative will result in a North American network of more than 400 charging hubs with more than 2,500 individual high-power chargers, built out by 2027. The network will be planned with an eye toward using as much green energy as possible. It’s being planned in collaboration with MN8 Energy, a significant solar energy and battery concern, and with ChargePoint, a big EV charging network technology company. Another consideration in locating hubs is ensuring they’re placed near places where drivers can access food and restrooms, be protected from the weather, and have surveillance cameras to ensure security.
Usage won’t be restricted to Mercedes-Benz drivers, but our brand’s customers will receive preferential treatment by just booking ahead to the next charger station from the comfort of their Mercedes. Even better, they can pay through their vehicle’s Mercedes Me Charge interface rather than with a credit card.
Ola Källenius, chairman of Mercedes-Benz’s Board of Management, said, “Mercedes-Benz already offers what we believe to be the finest EVs in the market. But to accelerate the electric transformation, we need to ensure that the charging experience keeps pace. Our customers deserve a compelling charging experience that makes electric vehicle ownership and long-distance travel effortless. We won’t take a wait-and-see approach for this to be built.”

And be sure to visit Mercedes-Benz of Farmington to see the technologically superb Mercedes-Benz EVs: The EQB 300 4MATIC®, EQB 350 4MATIC® SUV, EQS 450+ SUV, EQS 4MATIC® SUV, and EQS 580 4MATIC® SUV. Our vehicles have an exceptionally good range per charge, but even with that, having these new chargers available will mean even more peace of mind for owners.
