Mercedes-Benz’s designers love to spitball the German automaker’s future. Sometimes their visions become reality. Usually, at least a few of the amazing features they design into the Mercedes-Benz concept cars get folded into the next generation of vehicles.
Designers are sharing futuristic designs for two amazingly imagined Mercedes-Benzes. We can’t tell you when or if you’ll see the electric VISION AVTR or the all-electric Vision AMG® at Mercedes-Benz of Farmington, but it sure is fun to dream.
VISION AVTR is a collaboration with the AVATAR moviemakers, and it’s as futuristic as the movie’s fantasy world.
Powerful – 350kW+ of all-wheel-drive muscle. And since each wheel is separately powered, it can actually move sideways by 30 degrees. Revolutionary battery – based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry, no polluting and expensive earths or metals are used. It can be recycled by composting. The range would be about 700 km and it’s exceptionally fast charging. Integrated solar plates provide energy to more efficient chips, sensors, and other components “Immersive design” – It brings passengers and their environment together. The interior is cloaked in sustainable materials, including color-changing DINAMICA® vegan leather made of recycled materials like old clothes and plastic bottles. Advanced biometrics – VISION AVTR recognizes drivers by their breathing. Mercedes-Benz posts that, “In the ecosystem of the future, the ultimate luxury is the fusion of human and nature with the help of technology. The VISION AVTR is thus an example of sustainable luxury in the field of design.”
Mercedes-Benz is moving toward an electric-filled future, and it’s likely we’ll see cars similar to the Vision AMG® in the near future.
The Vision AMG® is underpinned by the AMG®.EA platform under development – Affalterbach. “We’re developing everything from scratch, from the dedicated AMG®.EA platform to the revolutionary drivetrain technology with which we will take performance electric mobility to a whole new level,” says Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG® GmbH.”
Flowing, sculptured exterior – the Vision AMG® is long and low with an advanced aerodynamic design. Seeing stars – three LED elements in the headlights form the iconic Mercedes-Benz star. They’re connected with an animated horizontal light band. The star motif is repeated on the brake lights and on the hood. Race car connection – the Vision AMG® has color and visual cues that connect it to Mercedes-AMG® Petronas F1 racing team. The star pattern is repeated on the bodywork.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG said, “With its contrasting modern surfacing and radical proportions, this car showcases the next design step … The seamless flow of beautifully formed surfaces and the monolithic sculpture complete the powerful aesthetic of the Vision AMG®. The result is an electric supercar, a style icon that stimulates desire – and that’s exactly what sets a luxury sports car apart.”
