How Far Can a Mercedes-Benz EQS Go on a Single Charge? It’s Astonishing!

How much range can an electric vehicle get on a single charge? That question underpins many consumers’ decision-making about switching to an EV. EV ranges have been steadily going up, and not coincidentally, so have EV sales, as drivers learn that an EV will save them $$ in the long run.

Mercedes-Benz has just completed a truly astonishing range test of the solid-state battery technology it’s been developing in a “lightly modified” Mercedes-Benz EQS test vehicle. At the end of August, this EQS drove 749 miles from Stuttgart, Germany to Malmo, Sweden ... ON A SINGLE CHARGE! Oh, and it had 85 miles left over.

Now we’re not here to tell you that it’s likely that all Mercedes-Benz EVs are going to be able to replicate those results. After all, a professional driver was at the wheel. But Markus Schafer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s chief technology officer said, “The solid-state battery is a true gamechanger for electric mobility. With the successful long-distance drive of the EQS, we show that this technology delivers not only in the lab but also on the road. Our goal is to bring innovations like this into series production by the end of the decade and offer our customers a new level of range and comfort.”

The solid-state battery technology is being developed with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) and cells from U.S. based solid-cell manufacturer Factorial Energy. And while this kind of extended range with solid-state batteries may still be a few years in the future, it’s worth popping some champagne corks now.

Of course, the current lineup of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles already sports some impressive range. The EQS, the first Mercedes built on an all-electric platform, has an EPA-estimated range of 390 miles for the EQS sedan, 317 miles for the EQS SUV, and 300 miles for the EQS Maybach SUV. The less-expensive EQE Sedan can go 308 miles on a charge, while the EQE SUV’s range is 270 miles.

On electric range, as on so many other qualities that make for a great driving experience, Mercedes-Benz is leading the way – just as it did more than a century ago when it introduced the automobile. Technology, comfort and luxury are all Mercedes-Benz hallmarks. Whether you’re interested in switching from gas to electric or want to stick with the tried-and-true, our client advisors at Mercedes-Benz of Farmington are eager to show our best.
